Akunst Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of Yuui Gim (b. 1986)’s solo exhibition, When All Asleep on view at Akunst Gallery Seoul from the 6th - 29th of December. This exhibition features a variety of new and marvelous works by the artist.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Yuui Gim (b. 1986, United Kingdom) is an artist inspired by nature, translating her impressions into visual art while continuing her practice in Korea. Her works evoke a mystical yet tranquil atmosphere through the interplay of light, animals, and natural elements. The cultural differences and language barriers she encountered while living between the United Kingdom and Korea naturally led her to develop the art of communication through visual language. This approach underscores her commitment to engaging with viewers and fostering meaningful connections. When viewers appreciate her works, they reconstruct images of nature and explore hope through elements such as light, rainbows, stars, and animals. She draws inspiration from nature, incorporating autobiographical elements to create fantastical and surreal spaces on her canvas. Through depictions of interactions with animals and landscapes imbued with light, her aims to evoke a sense of warmth and hope in viewers. Her creative process does not follow a planned sketch; rather, it unfolds naturally, like tamping soil and planting grass. This approach metaphorically embodies the vitality and growth of nature in her works, conveying a richness and tranquility that extends beyond what is visible to the viewers. Gim’s painting embodies a powerful vitality within moments of stillness, aiming to convey messages of hope and abundance to the audience.
